It may be recalled that two years ago, after the ephedrine case, the ANF froze all the assets and bank accounts of Hanif Abbasi and others on the charge that these assets were made from the proceeds from the sale of ephedrine. The petitioner had sought a court order on his move, but the court also rejected the ANF's request for confiscation of assets.
Special Anti-Narcotics Court Judge Sohail Nasir, while ruling on Hanif Abbasi's request for restoration of assets, also restored the accounts of Hanif Abbasi, his family and close relatives. It should be noted that PML-N A case was filed against Hanif Abbasi and other accused in July 2012 for obtaining 500 kg of ephedrine. On July 21, an anti-narcotics court in Rawalpindi acquitted PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi of life imprisonment in the ephedrine case, while acquitting seven other accused on the ground of lack of evidence. He has also been declared ineligible for politics for life.
